Khmer pepper may raise the price as the global economic recovery. the global economy gradually recovers, the price of Khmer pepper may rise to 20,000 riels (about 5 US dollars) per kilogram next year.
Mak Ny, chairman of the Cambodian Pepper and Spice Federation, said that in 2020, affected by the new crown epidemic, the price of Cambodian pepper once fell below US$2.5 per kilogram. Cambodian pepper prices are expected to rise in the next few years as some farmers abandon their cultivation, resulting in less pepper production. With the recovery of the world economy and the increase in consumption power, the demand for pepper will also increase, which will lead to a rise in pepper prices.
Most of Cambodia’s pepper exports to the European market are those from Kampot Province with Geographical Indication (GI) certification. Nguon Lay, chairman of the Kampot Pepper Promotion Association, said the association has been seeking to export Kampot peppers with GI certification to China because Kampot pepper prices are stable and GI-certified products are more expensive.
