Kaing Tong Ngy, a spokesman for the Cambodian Microfinance Association, said the increase could be a sign of Cambodia’s economic recovery as starting a business requires credit. But MFIs should continue to monitor trends in the industry closely to prevent any possible repercussions.

A spokesperson for the Microfinance Association also said that loans from microfinance increased to $8.218 billion at the end of September 2021, an increase of about $600 million from the previous quarter, while borrowers increased to 2,028,882, up from 2021.
