Cambodia-Thailand will form a joint workgroup to crack down on the cyber scam. Recently, the government of Cambodia and Thailand will commence a joint working group to crack down on telecom fraud!
According to a Thai government spokesman, the Thai cabinet approved yesterday (Tuesday, July 5) the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Economic and Social Affairs of Thailand and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia.
It is understood that the memorandum of understanding will be signed on July 11, when the Thai Minister of Economy and Society will visit Cambodia to attend the signing ceremony.
The MoUs to be signed are as follows, Cambodia-Thailand Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding on Combating Telecom Fraud.
- Share knowledge, techniques, and effective methods to combat call centers and integrated fraud gangs;
- Appoint coordinators to assist Thai and Cambodian police in their investigations and collection of evidence to catch suspects promptly. Such evidence may include data on users of voice communications services over the Internet and telephone records of suspects in both countries;
- To coordinate and facilitate the transfer of suspects following the extradition treaty between Thailand and Cambodia and the laws and regulations of both countries;
- Established a joint working committee of relevant officials from Thailand and Cambodia;
- Establish other forms of cooperation that the parties later agree on.
It is understood that “call centers” are a group of fraudulent groups that engage in wire fraud, tricking victims into believing that they are in imminent danger, and then promising to help them free from the fictitious threat, but they will pay a certain amount of money for it.
“Comprehensive scam” gangs, including fraudsters who create fake social media accounts and dating apps. These accounts and apps are used to lure unsuspecting victims into investing in money markets through online platforms and transfer funds into fake investments so scammers can receive victims’ funds.
