Chea Serey, appeared on the list of the 50 Most Influential People in Cryptocurrency of the Year. Chea Serey, assistant governor of the Central Bank of Cambodia, has appeared on the list of the “50 Most Influential People in Cryptocurrency of the Year” by cryptocurrency information website CoinDesk.
According to CoinDesk, the “Bakong” system (បាគង), promoted by the assistant governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), was launched in October last year and has since been downloaded in the hundreds of thousands. The “Bakong” system allows users to send and receive money through QR codes, phone numbers, and more.
She also clarified many times that “Bakong” is not a digital currency, but to simplify financial services, to adapt to economic and financial technology innovation, and to promote the modernization of Cambodia’s payment system. “The main goal of the Bakong system is to provide a simple, fast, and low-cost payment system that makes financial services more accessible to Cambodians,” she noted.
CoinDesk dubbed 2021 the “Year of Cryptocurrencies” when it released the list, with a growing number of celebrities embracing cryptocurrencies and wild swings in the prices of bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies.
