The Surge up in Omicron Cases Rush up People in Phnom Penh. Recently, the number of confirmed cases of the epidemic has continued to rise, which has caused the people in Phnom Penh to surge up to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications to purchase the Covid-19 antiviral medication Molnupiravir. Yesterday, Monday, February 21, a long line of people could be seen queueing at the ministry, located near Wat Phnom in Daun Penh district, to buy the medication.
There are nearly 6,000 Omicron cases that have been confirmed and announced by the Ministry, and the number has been increasing daily. Thus, the individuals are urged to take a rapid test before attending any public event, and the event organizers also have to ensure that they have reduced the size of participation and do the prevention as the measure from the ministry well. The public not to let their guard down despite gradually adjusting to life with the presence of the virus, and stressed the need to always adhere to health guidelines and act sensibly.
To be noticed that, the medication is sold under the brand name Molnatris, which has been authorized for home-based treatment of mild to moderate cases. And last month, the ministry announced that the price of the medication would be set at $55 per treatment course consisting of 40 tablets.
The Ministry of Health and Covid-19 commissions across the country have urged the public to pay more attention and enhance vigilance in a surge in Omicron cases, while there is some in the capital trying to begin stocking up on antiviral medication for the possibility of infection preparatory. Some people are buying it for themselves than to be ready for it in case they touch with the virus, while others were purchasing it for family members who have already tested positive and fallen sick.
According to an additional directive issued by the Ministry of Health, the asymptomatic Covid-19 patients or those with mild symptoms should treat themselves at home using a medicine that responds directly to the symptoms, or which are authorized for use to treat COVID-19, such as Molnupiravir.
The directive stated that four pills of 200mg Molnupiravir capsules should be taken every 12 hours for five consecutive days. Patients should start the medication as soon as possible after testing positive for the COVID. It also warned that the medicine is not recommended for pregnant, breastfeeding mothers, and people under 18 years old.
The ministry urges individuals to take rapid tests before they attend any public event, and also called on event organizers to ensure that the number of participants is under control for the prevention of those with symptoms from attending. Then those who test positive for Covid-19 are to report their status to local authorities and health officials in order to receive instruction on treatment and timely intervention should their condition is getting worsen.
Even we try to live with COVID-19, which does not mean we’re lacking presentation from it. Most people seem to be careless with it to cause the implementation of the ‘three dos and three don’ts’ prevention measures to be patchy, and it might be a cause of the infection increase. Let’s do good prevention for yourself, as important as to prevent your family from the COVID-19.
